The passion for protecting the environment and “going green” displayed at Wyndham Trenython Manor has resulted in the resort garnering a range of awards recognising its proactive eco-friendly work.
Here at Wyndham Trenython Manor we boast many environmentally friendly and energy saving features. We have carefully preserved the natural features of our beautiful 24-acre site so we can protect and encourage our flora and fauna, and have done so in a way designed to introduce our guests, both young and old, to the importance of this work in a way the whole family can enjoy.
The resort has encouraged wildlife and habitats and has constructed bird and bat boxes, placed bee logs around the grounds, developed a woodland glade butterfly garden and created nature walks through its six acres of ancient woodland, which is recognised as being of European nature conservation importance.
In addition we work hard to conserve natural resources by ensuring the responsible use of energy, water and materials while continuing to provide the high quality service expected by our guests. We play our part to reduce the carbon footprint by using fresh flavours from Cornwall on our menu, using the best produce from local farmers and the finest locally produced ingredients wherever possible.
Striking Gold
The resort has gained a Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. An assessor scored Wyndham Trenython Manor highly for its acquisition of a composter, which turns food waste into fertiliser and dramatically reduces the amount of waste going to landfill. The work in the garden areas, following the development of nesting boxes, interpretation boards, a bird hide and the children’s garden was also praised.
RCI RADA Award
In addition, Wyndham Trenython Manor was one of just three resorts in Europe affiliated to RCI to win the first ever RCI RADA Green Award. Environmental experts applauded the resort for its green agenda and commitment to responding to the need for quality experiences for their guests – especially families with children.
Support for seals
Wyndham Trenython Manor sponsors two Cornish grey seals, Carousel and Superman, cared for by the Cornwall Seal Group, a voluntary organisation linked to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. In addition the resort is affiliated to the Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (COAST).
‘I wanted sustainability to be something we do as a matter of course in our everyday working lives, rather than just another ‘directive’ and what began as adopting green principles for the way we operate at Wyndham Trenython Manor has become a passion.
If we truly want a sustainable future, the more we encourage children to connect with the natural environment from an early age the better – and through increased understanding they in turn will be motivated to protect and enhance it’.
